Up to 30 passenger aircraft destroyed in war, Iran Air says
Iran Air says 20 to 30 passenger aircraft were destroyed during the war, adding to a shortage in Iran’s passenger fleet.
Between 20 and 30 passenger aircraft in Iran were destroyed during the war, Iran Air said, adding to a shortage in the country’s passenger fleet.
The losses affected a national fleet of roughly 300 aircraft, of which only 130 to 140 had been operational.
Iran Air Chief Executive Taher Abdolhay said 70 to 80 aircraft were targeted during the war. His figures describe losses across the country’s aviation industry, rather than solely at Iran Air.
Abdolhay said estimates put Iran’s requirement at about 1,000 passenger aircraft to meet demand for air travel. He said the existing fleet remained well below the capacity needed to serve that demand.
