Former Secretary of Iran’s Supreme Council of Cyberspace, Abolhassan Firouzabadi, revealed that some major non-private companies in Iran are selling VPN services.
In a video interview with Entekhab media, Firouzabadi stated, 'I won’t name names, but certain large non-private companies are involved in VPN sales.' He added that these companies sell a significant volume of VPNs, noting the difficulty in distinguishing between private, semi-private, and government entities in Iran.
Firouzabadi also commented on domestic messaging platforms, saying they provide user data to judges if legally required.
Additionally, he disclosed that most filtering tools in Iran are software-based and locally developed by several Iranian companies. According to him, 'Iran’s internet filtering quality rivals Chinese filters.'
