The 26th edition of the Iran Telecom Exhibition (Telecom 26) will be held from January 22 to 25 (Bahman 2–5, 1404), at the Tehran International Permanent Fairground. The event will take place under the slogan “Telecommunications and Artificial Intelligence: Where Signals Become Intelligent.”

Davoud Adib, Head of the Coordination Council of ICT Associations, said during the Telecom 26 press conference that this year’s exhibition differs significantly from previous editions due to its strong focus on artificial intelligence.“

Based on international assessments among 193 countries, Iran ranks between 90 and 100 in the application of artificial intelligence,” Adib stated. “Sanctions and parallel policymaking across different institutions have been among the key factors behind this decline.”

He added that Iran’s position in AI knowledge production is much stronger: “In the knowledge domain, our ranking is below 20. This clearly shows a serious imbalance between AI knowledge and its real-world application in the country. At Telecom 26, we are trying to bridge the gap between industry, academia, and the market.”

According to Adib, several specialized panels will be held during the exhibition, most of them focused on topics related to artificial intelligence and its applications in the ICT sector.

Faramerz Rastegar, Chairman of the Board of the Telecommunications Industry Syndicate, also spoke at the press conference, emphasizing the importance of redefining the National Information Network.

“One of the main messages of this year’s Telecom Exhibition is the need for a clear and accurate definition of the National Information Network,” Rastegar said. “Over the past years, technical work has been carried out across different layers of this network. However, its further development requires a proper conceptual definition and broader public awareness of its capabilities.”

He noted that instead of being viewed as an opportunity and a public service by citizens and the private sector, the National Information Network has often been associated with fear and concern. “At Telecom 26, we will attempt to explain and clarify the four main layers of the National Information Network to help correct this perception,” he added.
