100,000 Iranian Users Are on Starlink, Report Claims
Restrictions have fueled Starlink’s growth in Iran.
The Tehran E-Commerce Chamber reported that Starlink traffic in Iran has grown about 20-fold since the beginning of 2024. Additionally, there are currently 30,000 active Starlink subscriptions in the country, serving around 100,000 users.
According to Digiato, the fourth Internet Quality Report by the E-Commerce Association indicates that despite some improvements in certain metrics, internet access in Iran remains restricted and highly unstable.
Similar observations were made in the Chamber's previous reports, but the fourth edition highlights how these restrictions have fueled Starlink’s growth in Iran.
Based on the report’s assessment, the number of Starlink subscriptions in Iran has surpassed even Forbes’ estimate of 20,000, reaching 30,000.
Pouya Pirhosseinloo, head of the Internet and Infrastructure Commission at the E-Commerce Chamber, estimates that roughly 100,000 users in Iran are now utilizing Starlink.
Growing user interest in Starlink has led to a 20-fold increase in the service’s traffic in Iran since the start of 2024.
