Taliban Blocks Major Social Media Platforms in Afghanistan
The Taliban enforces broad social media restrictions in Afghanistan, blocking Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Snapchat.
The Taliban has implemented widespread restrictions on social media platforms in Afghanistan, blocking access to popular apps such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Snapchat.
According to data from NetBlocks and local reports, internet service providers including Afghan Wireless, Roshan, HaqNet, and Western Telecom, have significantly limited access to these platforms. The restrictions appear comprehensive, with user access rates reportedly near zero per cent.

The blockade affects websites, mobile APIs, content delivery networks (CDNs), and video services of the platforms.
Last week, Afghanistan experienced a major fiber optic outage that disrupted internet connectivity across large parts of the country. While the Taliban attributed the outage to ageing infrastructure, there is growing speculation that it was linked to preparations for implementing advanced filtering systems.
