Iran Developing Native Operating System and Search Engine Under National Information Network
Iran is developing a native OS and search engine in partnership with the private sector.
Iran's Information Technology Organization is developing a native operating system and search engine in collaboration with the private sector. According to Mohammad Mohsen Sadr, head of the Information Technology Organization of Iran, these services are part of the National Information Network initiative. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, August 18, 2025, Sadr highlighted progress in digital government transformation following a recent directive from the president.
Sadr announced that the National Smart Government Services Window has surpassed 67 million users, showcasing widespread access to electronic government services. He emphasized the importance of maintaining service quality and timely delivery.
To address service disruptions among government agencies, a new monitoring system has been launched. This platform allows citizens to view real-time service availability and report issues directly.
Sadr also outlined the finalized Digital Government Transformation Document. Developed after eight months of expert analysis, this document sets directives for creating digital ecosystems based on global standards. Key initiatives include building a 'Government Cloud,' advancing digital transformation across agencies, and eliminating redundant systems.
He further revealed plans for the upcoming IranPass app. Currently in pilot testing, this app will provide secure identity verification and unified access to all government services. The smart government ecosystem focuses on exchanging electronic documents rather than data for enhanced legal accountability.
On native technology development, Sadr noted that private sector involvement is driving progress in creating a domestic operating system and search engine. While some foundational services are complete, others remain under development through public-private collaboration.
