The Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, has withdrawn a bill addressing the spread of false content in cyberspace for further review. The move aims to refine its provisions, expand regulatory approaches, and ensure better support for lawful freedom of expression under the Constitution.

Official Letter and Parliamentary Announcement

On Sunday, August 3, 2025, during a session at the parliamentary hall, Ahmad Naderi, a member of the parliament's presidium, read the letter from Masoud Pezeshkian regarding the withdrawal request.

Addressed to Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Parliament, the letter stated: "In implementation of Article 134 of the internal regulations of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, the withdrawal of the bill on combating the dissemination of false content in cyberspace, subject to letter number 65420/63476 dated 30/04/1404, is requested. Considering reviews and the need for further examination of the bill’s provisions, this action aims to broaden regulatory frameworks and better support lawful freedom of expression within constitutional boundaries. This decision was approved in the cabinet session dated 08/05/1404 and submitted for legal procedures."
