First Islamic World AI Document to Be Approved
The first Islamic World Artificial Intelligence document will be signed.
At the conclusion of the second summit of higher education ministers from Islamic countries, the first Islamic World Artificial Intelligence document will be signed.
A press conference for the second summit of higher education ministers from Islamic countries, held under the framework of the OIC-15 Dialogue Platform, took place on Sunday, May 18, at the Espinas Palace Hotel in Tehran. According to Mehr News Agency, Hossein Simaei-Sarraf, Hossein Simaei-Sarraf, Iran’s Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, addressed ethical concerns surrounding artificial intelligence, stating, “One of the ethical worries in the field of artificial intelligence is the use of this technology by the Zionist regime in its unjust war against the oppressed people of Palestine, the rightful owners of this land.”
He further explained, “This type of AI use not only violates international norms and humanitarian principles but also breaches customary and ethical standards.” The Minister of Science noted that part of the escalation in violating these norms and standards has been facilitated by the capabilities of artificial intelligence. He emphasized, “If this technology is not used ethically, it poses a significant threat to humanity. However, humanity has reached a level of maturity to use such dual-purpose tools appropriately, even though misuse is always a possibility.”
Simaei-Sarraf added, “Fortunately, ethical norms have become a global concern, which is why UNESCO is currently drafting a document on the ethical use of artificial intelligence, with the Islamic Republic also contributing to its development.” He further noted, “The first Islamic World AI document has been prepared, and we hope that members will sign it at the conclusion of this summit.”
