Data from Myket on Codal shows that the lifting of Google Play’s restrictions did not negatively affect the revenue of this Iranian app store. In fact, the company’s revenue in the winter of 2024 even increased compared to other seasons.

In early December 2024, when Iran’s Supreme Council of Cyberspace agreed to unblock Google Play, many predicted that Iranian app stores would face a decline in users and revenue. However, Myket’s financial report on Codal shows that not only did the company’s revenue not decrease, but mobile software sales in winter 2024 grew by 10% compared to the previous fall, reaching their highest level yet.

After two years of filtering, the reopening of Google Play had led to the assumption that Iranian app stores like Bazaar and Myket would see a significant drop in users. Yet, the published financial data proves the opposite.

Based on Myket’s monthly activity report published on Codal, this Android store generated over 120 billion tomans from mobile software sales in winter 2024—its highest quarterly revenue last year.

Interestingly, Myket’s peak revenue occurred in March, about three months after Google Play’s unblocking. That month, the company recorded 43.67 billion tomans (approx. 500,000 Dollars) in software sales revenue.

For a more precise analysis, user consumption patterns from past years’ seasons should also be examined, but such data has not been officially released. Still, available information confirms that, contrary to predictions, the unblocking of Google Play did not significantly affect user preference for domestic app stores.

These findings support previous claims by Iranian app store executives, who have repeatedly stated that they welcome competition with Google Play.

It’s worth noting that the data analyzed in this report only pertains to mobile software sales on Myket’s platform. The company also generates revenue through other channels, such as book sales, ad space rentals, and digital content traffic. In winter, Myket earned over 262 billion tomans from various revenue streams.

Additionally, it’s important to mention that Myket records the full amount received from software sales as revenue, while the commission paid to developers is recorded under operational expenses.
