YouTube access has been restored on the internal network of the University of Tehran.
According to Digiato, the 'Student Council of the University of Tehran' revealed that YouTube is now accessible on the university's internal internet. This move enables students to use the platform for educational and research purposes.
Background on Internet Access Initiative
The decision follows prior resistance from government officials regarding tiered internet access. Despite objections, the project has been implemented for both students and faculty at the University of Tehran.
In January 2024, the Minister of Science announced plans to unblock YouTube for academic use. The Ministry of ICT was reportedly involved in facilitating this initiative. However, soon after the announcement, the Ministry of ICT's public relations office denied any involvement with tiered internet access.
Despite initial denials, the project has moved forward, granting students and faculty access to YouTube for academic purposes on the university's internal network.
