The founder of Divar has estimated that GPS disruptions have caused at least $1 billion in direct economic losses to Iran. He noted that this figure is equivalent to one-sixth of the funds frozen in South Korea and Qatar, which Iran has been negotiating to release for years.
According to Digiato, Hesam Armandehi, founder of Bazaar, Divar, and Balad, shared on LinkedIn: "If just three percent of routes experience navigation errors due to GPS disruptions, it results in approximately four million liters of additional daily gasoline consumption. This translates to an annual loss of around 60 trillion tomans ($1 billion) solely from the cost of importing this extra fuel."
Armandehi emphasized that this estimate accounts only for direct losses. Indirect damages in aviation, maritime transport, logistics, agriculture, and thousands of other GPS-based services have not been included.
He stated: "GPS disruption is not merely a technical issue; it is an economic and national threat that directly impacts every individual. We need to address and find solutions for this problem."
